Senator Wyden at PNITAs January Members Luncheon challenged PNITA and others in the business community to play a pro-active role in supporting the Columbia Riverr Channel Deepening Project, including sitting down with those who may not always agree with our position. PNITA has pledged its support to work with all interested parties to that end. On Feb. 5 PNITA participated in the Columbia River Channel Deepening Day at the State Capitol in Olympia to urge congressional and state officials to support funding of the project.

The Oregon International Trade Commission is examining the State's efforts to promote international trade, and making recommendations on ways to make those efforts more efficient and focused. The Commission is concentrating its efforts in five areas: Agriculture, Inward Investment, Manufacturing, Services, and Transportation and Infrastructure.

PNITA and several of its members have been engaged in these consultations to discuss the needs of Oregon businesses to compete in the global marketplace. The Commission will finalize its findings in a report to be sent to Governor Kitzhaber by March 2002. Once made public, we will post on our website.
