In addition, the value of India-bound re-exported UAE commodities rose by 162 per cent, going up from Dh4.4 billion to Dh11.5 billion during the same comparison period. China Becomes India's Largest Trade Partner
China has emerged as India's largest trading partner, replacing US in 2008-09. Apart from increasing trade engagement with the neighbouring country and weak demand for foreign goods in the US, which is reeling under recession contributed to this. According to a reply filed by minister of state for commerce Jyotiraditya Scindia in Lok Sabha on Monday, bilateral trade engagement between India and China stood at Rs 1,63,202 crore (nearly $ 36 billion) in April to February 2008-09, an increase of nearly 7% over Rs 1,52,713 crore in the year ago period. In the same period under consideration, bilateral trade between India and the US dipped 7.5% and stood at Rs 1,55,353 crore (approximately $ 34 billion...
The Phoenicians are sometimes considered the founders of globalization, and it is true that they were great Traders, and they went to other civilizations to trade for whatever they could and were quite successful in doing so. Of course, others believe that the Chinese with their silk Roads were indeed the founders of globalization. Then there were the Spanish colonies, the English colonies, and the Dutch Traders, all of which were involved in world trade, setting up outposts and globalizing their civilizations. During the Ming dynasty, Admiral Zheng sailed off around the world with his treasure fleet, and had that continued the Chinese would have probably been the world's largest super power even...
SNAIL TRADE & EXPORT FROM NIGERIA
You are welcome to the world of snail trade and export where rearing of snails, selling and exporting is giving people financial freedom. The importance of snail is well appreciated in European countries like France, Italy, Britain and West Germany. In Chaina, they simply specialized in breeding of the African giant snails and sell over 7,000 tons of processed snail meat annually. Apart from farming snails, another wealth...
Generation Jones, Fair Trade and Free Love
Before the readers of this article begin to imagine that I live on some mountain top, sling on the Birkenstocks (which I happen to love), crunch on granola and soy for sustainment (blech), braid the hairs on my legs and meditate daily in the hopes of achieving ascension and enlightenment (Amen), know that at least you are partially correct in your musings. I drive a car, have a carbon foot print, shop at a really large chain grocery store and commit other consumer sins. I mean come on! Convenience, more Benjamin's in the wallet and catchy zillion dollar advertisement campaigns! Fortunately too, I was given, as every person is, a conscience and the free will to use it. Being born in the 60's has...

American Markets Before Globalization
With a recession on the doorstep for the American people, it is in the best interest of everyone to discuss the reasons that are causing this and how we can prevent it in the future. Today we live in a global economy. American companies not only compete inside America, but they also compete outside of America. This would appear to be free enterprise at work, but that is hardly the case. The United States is a beacon to the world of free enterprise. Most countries in the world haven't adopted this. They still live in a market place that has much government involvement and this leads to a distortion of the market place on a global scale. The hardest hit part of the economy is the manufacturing sector...

The Jackson Hole conclave of central bank chiefs came and went, leaving hardly a ruffle behind. The remarkable fact is that it had so little effect, despite the much expected speech on the U.S. economy by Mr. Bernanke of the Federal Reserve Bank. Mr. Bernanke's main field of study as an academic economist has been the Great Depression. As the current "Great Recession" developed the Fed's primary concern therefore was to avoid the policy mistakes that turned the 1929 stock market crash into a disastrous ten-year downturn. Chief among these errors was the failure to provide abundant liquidity to the financial system. Accordingly super-abundant liquidity was provided this time around, under the form of...

Some challenges could be common to most of them and addressing them can turn out to have international...

There seems to be a storm brewing in Washington DC over our trade issues with China, and until they are straightened out, it makes little or no sense for us to further stimulate our economy, because all that money will just end up in China in three or four transactions after circulating here. Thus, who would we really be stimulating us or them, and if that whole "us versus them" issue bothers you, realize that this is the way they see us too. In fact, China has done things to further unbalance trade with the USA, and goes out of its way to 'win-big' at our expense. International Trade should be a win-win, but when trading partners don't see it that way, it becomes a win-lose, and right now; we are...

Let's give an example of where you can save: You move into a house with your girlfriend/wife. You are paying insurance on two cars on two separate policies (approximately £450 on each one) as you...
Do You Need to Register All Vehicles on Your Motor Trade Insurance Policy on the MID Database?
Motorists in the United Kingdom are paying a staggering 500 pounds each year to cover the cost of damages caused by uninsured drivers and these losses are inevitably passed on to the premiums of insured drivers who end up paying a lot more for car cover. The MID database was set up to discourage drivers from taking their vehicles out on the road without the proper insurance cover; it is mandatory for all insured vehicle owners to register their car on this database. The rules for registration differ depending on the type of policy that you hold; for instance the procedure for registering a vehicle if you own trade cover will be different from if you were to own a private policy. So here is a look at...
Do You Really Need Motor Trade Insurance?
If you are new to the car industry; the first question that you are bound to come up with is if you truly need a motor trade policy. If you have pondering over this aspect of the business, here is some relevant information that will help you to make an informed decision. Why not choose a regular car insurance policy? Although changing the vehicle on a regular car insurance policy is an option, you will need to pay a fee for every time you do so. At £20 or more for each time you add a new vehicle to the policy, this may prove to be an expensive prospect and can significantly add to your premium charges. Another problem is that if your insurance provider finds out that you are in trade and are...
How motor trade insurance is different from car insurance
Despite the similarity of names, motor trade insurance is fairly different from the typical motor vehicle insurance. The differences stem from the nature of the policies; the former is principally a form of commercial insurance, the latter a private policy for individual motorists. Like private motor insurance, motor trade policies come in a variety of levels of cover like third party, third party fire and theft and comprehensive insurance. Unlike car insurance though, motor trade policies cover the driver - not the driver and the vehicle. Basically, car insurance protects a specific driver in a specific vehicle. Motor trade protects a driver for any vehicle he or she drives for the purposes of...

Christmas Joke on Free and Fair Trade - Poor Santa - Toy Patent Infringement
Note: This is a joke about the often paradoxical facade of free trade. This global economic recession has hurt almost every manufacturing company in the United States. Unfortunately, it has also hurt the factories that make toys for Christmas at the North Pole. Santa Claus Inc. is nearly bankrupt and it appears that increased health care costs, the economic recession, and the Chinese patent and copyright infringements on their toys have taken their toll. The CEO and Chairman of Santa Claus Inc., Chris Cringle VII told investors on a conference call that the company was restructuring its costs, and going to Six Sigma Manufacturing Methods to increase its efficiency. He also told Wall Street that...
Why Buy Fair Trade Products and Gifts?
There was a time, right up until recent years when most people generally felt that the way that they shopped and spent the money that their earned was completely disconnected with the things that effected their world that surrounded them. People gassed up their cars and tucks and prowled their local shopping malls with basically one thing on their mind. Finding the absolute lowest prices. The Chickens Have Come Home To Roost Then about a decade back the chickens came home to roost. It was revealed to the public that it was in fact their own money that by proxy financed the World Trade Center disaster. Also it was around the same time that people in the US Canad and Brittan began to realize that the...
Trade the YM or ES Emini Contract
The "big" money in emini trading is in the ES (S and P) contract and most traders relish the idea of cashing on the allure this contract holds. And it's true, the ES contract commands a tremendous amount of participation, and results in a huge number of contracts traded every day. For the average trader, slippage is not a real worry on the ES contract because of the overwhelming volume traded in this contract. The YM contract, on the other hand, seems diminutive in volume stature when compared to the ES contract. And while you can easily trade 100 contracts at a time on the ES (which I personally never have), 100 contracts would stretch the liquidity of the YM contracts volume. One quick...
Understanding India As a Growing Power in Global Economy
My knowledge of India had been limited to what I learned about that country from high school and college textbooks. So when I stumbled across Gunjan Bagla's book on India and began reading, I learned a great deal about India and its role in today's global economy. I had no idea there were so many religions practiced in India and had little appreciation for the number of giant American companies, such as General Electric, that are operating very successful ventures in India. I also learned that the litigation is backlogged for years in India, that buildings and streets are not handicapped accessible, that some two dozen languages are spoken there, that politics are far more divisive there than in the...

Think about it - people trust people who make things happen and who deliver on their commitments. Whether growing a family or growing a business, it all starts with you! Do you inspire trust? Integrity is being honest with yourself, keeping commitments to yourself and others, and acting congruent inside and out...

What is fair trade coffee and why should it matter to you?
What is fair trade coffee and why should it matter to you? When speaking of fair trade coffee, it is first important to define the term ‘fair trade.’ Fair trade means that there exists a fair and mutually beneficial partnership between a producer of a good and the buyer of a good – in this case, the coffee growers and the companies that sell the coffee (buyers). The fair trade regulation was brought about due to the recurrence of instances where especially poor farmers had full stocks of coffee that they needed to sell in order to sustain their livelihood and make room for new coffee, and had no choice but to make the sale at a loss due to the low price offered by the buyers. Fair Trade not...
Globalisation to Protectionism
It appears that the 'globalisation' era maybe tempering down, hopefully not coming to an absolute end. My hope is based on the understanding that the globalisation wave is far too strong and too deep to ebb out totally overnight. Also it has several benefits that the world has enjoyed and it would not be easy to forget the merits all together thereby getting bogged down by the economic downturn and start looking only at the demerits of globalisation. Since ancient times, countries / civilizations have traded with each other and endeavoured to be globally linked for mutual fulfilment and growth. However, with maturity of the globalisation model, as it stands in the current state, it is characterized...

Growth of Translation Services Due To Globalization
Professional translation services prove to be indispensable when an organization decides to take its product or service outside its home turf. Such brand building exercises outside the home territory require strong support from translation services as companies encounter linguistic, cultural, economic, and legal obstacles in pursuit of their objectives in foreign markets. The advances in communication technology have helped organizations to extend their reach beyond their home markets. Distances have dissolved and differences in time zones have ceased to be a hindrance. In fact, they are more of an advantage as clients get their work done faster as compared to the vendors in the home countries...
Maritime Shipping and Business Globalization Consequences
It could appear conspicuous to allege that we endure in a globalized reality and is genuine that global merchandise between all the countries and areas of the planet isn't afresh action. Since the Phoenician culture, passing by Egyptians, Hellenic and Cartaginese, Chinese, Vikings, Spaniard, Lusitanian, Italians, British, Frenchmen, Dutches, Polynesians and Kelts, the history of the world is the history of geographic expedition, conquerings and ocean commercialism. In that today’s earthly concern, federal delimitations count just very few obstructions to global organizations...

The Internet - Opening the Gates For Globalization
Globalization changed the face of international business in a lot of ways. The internet played a key role for globalization to become possible. Before the internet was implemented for general use, small to medium enterprises were pretty much limited to the local market. For a company to go international it had to be big and that meant a considerable financial investment. Communication between businesses from different countries proved to be expensive and erratic at best. All of that changed when the internet became available to the public. The internet allowed businesses to grow and expand in ways that we only dreamed of a few years ago. The internet also paved the way for new businesses to be born...
Is it Time For "De-Globalization?"
Has the great globalization experiment been terminated? Will it all be rolled back? And if yes, rolled back to what? Can we even imagine a de-globalized world vividly enough to understand it's implications? These questions and more, are haunting both supporters and opponents of US protectionism today. Unbelievable as it is, protectionist voices in the US are gaining ground. What was once a cathedral to free markets is now turning away from it's beliefs. And the reason, or so they would have you believe, is alleged currency manipulation by China. The background to this has been discussed in detail in an earlier post, China's Currency Policy, The Financial Crisis and the Future of Financial Reform. In...
Globalization and Global Problems in the World
The term globalization is widely used in scientific literature, social journalism and politics. It is described as strengthened economic interdependence and interrelationship between all countries of the world. The notion of global economy appeared in the 40th of the XIX century. At that time transportation expenses have slumped with the appearance of railway and steam- engine modes of transport. Thus, new possibilities were created for long-distance goods delivery and the enlargement of effective co-operation between nations has gone ahead. In the 80th (20th century), however, globalization posed considerable complications. The international organizations claimed the existence of global problems...

Why Fair Trade Coffee?
ver possible you should look for coffee beans that are fair trade. The fair trade coffee movement has been seeing steady growth in the last decade. Many savvy consumers are demanding fair trade options which is forcing large coffee retailers to take notice. Since the onset of the global financial crisis in late 2008, coffee prices have plunged but the prices most people pay in the United States has not changed. The large coffee suppliers and retailers have simply pocketed the difference. Fair Trade means a fair partnership between the coffee farmers and the large companies that market the products in lucrative North American and European markets. The system works to guarantee that low-income farmers...
Fair Trade Coffee For a Clear Conscience
So much of what we love comes from distant countries, harvested by people we hardly think of. They may endure poor working conditions, lack education, even be forced into labor as children. Injury results from long hours without proper sustenance or safety measures, and often no program exists to support those who lose a limb or an eye to this low payed job. Products to watch include coffee, chocolate and tea among many others. Fair trade coffee attempts to reverse this cycle of exploitation through a set of rigidly established regulations. These organizations address the appalling discrepancy between price per pound and the cost required to produce beans. Without regulations, the price paid often...

Fair trade coffee is representative of a social movement that is working to promote sustainable environments and reduce global poverty overall. The basis of this movement is that it guarantees fair prices and wages to the coffee farmer as a bottom-line so that they can work to support their families and communities, while continuing to produce an impressive coffee crop. Fair trade Java was specifically designed to help poor farmers in coffee producing countries that are hoping to produce organic and gourmet premium beans. What many consumers may not understand is that Java prices are...
